Crestview students design new firework for Phantom Fireworks
Independence Day is right around the corner and Phantom Fireworks recruited some bright young minds to design a dazzling new firework. Students from Crestview Middle School teamed up to create the 'Phat Splat' rocket firework.
Six Crestview students -Grace Weaver, Logan Cox, Blasey Biser, Zoe Mays, Lily Stamp, and Bridget Borchardf- spent last year redesigning and rebranding the Flower & Willow rocket pack firework. Phantom Fireworks officials say the product's sales were significantly low.
The organization recruited the students to give the firework a new name and new look to highlight the fierce power inside each package.
The project based learning activity is blasting the students into the world of marketing.
"They went after our target market and figured out most males [aged] 18-45 buy rockets, and so they went out in the community and started doing surveys," Jessica Dragoiu, Phantom Fireworks' purchasing and product development manager said.
The project took more than a year to complete. Students were provided with an opportunity to showcase their ingenuity, artistic skills and explore career options.
"We're trying to do these project based learning activities with every grade level, just to give students an opportunity to see what careers are out there and what they can do in the future," said Allison Lemaster, former Crestview Middle School principal.
The firework is available for purchase at Phantom Fireworks' North Lima location. Within the next 10 days, Phat Splat will be in stores nationwide.
