Warren city council plans to discuss liquor permit challenges with store owners

City council members in Warren are preparing to decide on whether they should revoke the liquor permits for the Big Apple and Pit Stop.
Minutes before the city council meeting on Wednesday night, Fourth Ward Councilman James Shaffer met with the owners of both stores. Shaffer said discussions about objecting liquor permits for the stores are put on hold until the next city council meeting.
Despite suggesting to revoke the liquor permits of each business, Shaffer says he is open to reaching agreements that would benefit both parties.
"We don't want to take away their liquor license. We want to come up with a solution that would possibly work for everyone," Shaffer told 21 News.
Shaffer plans to meet with the store owners, their lawyers and other council members at the law director's office on July 17.
Shaffer suggested objecting to liquor permits for the stores earlier this month. He says the businesses are the main area for gun violence.
"In that area people don't even call about gunshots anymore because it has become so commonplace. That's ridiculous," Shaffer said.
