A Boardman man is behind bars after police say he set his own home on fire.

According to a police report, police were dispatched to a home on the 300 Block of Afton Avenue for a fully engulfed structure fire.

Upon arrival, police spoke to the suspect, identified as 38-year-old David Idleburg, who police say was acting suspicious asking to get in his car and leave the home and attempting to leave the scene and asking to do so multiple times.

Idleburg told police he didn't know how the fire started and that he was in the basement trying to remove tar from the floor by using gasoline. Police say they overheard Idleburg telling a fire marshal that the fire may have started when he lit a cigarette in the home.

When questioned further, Idleburg requested to speak with an attorney before answering any more questions. Police say Idleburg has lived at the home for the past several years with the homeowner. The police report lists the address as Idleburg's legal address.

Fire marshals told police that there were two separate fire areas with one in the basement and the other in the living room.

Due to Idleburg allegedly using gasoline in the home and statements made by Idleburg, he was arrested and charged with Aggravated Arson. He was arraigned on these charges on Tuesday and is back in court July 25 for a pretrial hearing.
