SHARON, Pa. -  Over a dozen fire chiefs of Western Pennsylvania gathered in Sharon to train on an airplane simulator to expand their fire safety skills.

Using a simulated airplane, fire chiefs to practice putting out structural fires to enhance their preparedness expertise.

"The more training evolution they get the more realistic it is, the better off they are going to be  in the real world situation," Jerry Kirila, president of Kirila Fire Facilities.

And after the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, instructors from Kirila Fire company said it is imperative to educate fire personnel on handling hazardous materials.

"The firemen need to understand what the placards are on the tanks, what type of PPE to put on and how to stop the tanks from leaking such as a rail car," Kirila.

Ohio based company Kirila Fire sponsored the training session and encouraged fire chiefs to use fire training simulators. Sharon's fire department is using rooftop simulators and a confined space trainer for their workforce.

In Hermitage, the fire chief says the will be using Kirila Fire props to build a three story burn tower with a maze for trainees.
