NILES, Ohio - The Niles Fire Department will be conducting its annual citywide hydrant flushing beginning next week.

The flushing program is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 11 and is expected to last two to three weeks weather permitting. The flushing is done in an effort to help maintain the city's water quality and evaluate the effectiveness of the hydrants.

There will be three crews flushing hydrants in various areas of the city each day. When flushing occurs in your area, you may experience lower water pressure and see some discoloration in your water for a short period of time.

During this time, residents are asked to run their cold water until the discoloration goes away.
