1998: Youngstown police arrest Albert W. Baumgartner, 21, on charges he shot and killed his parents, John H. and Judy Baumgartner, and wounded his 19-year-old sister after he was ordered to leave the family home at 3315 Meridian Road.
A group of 10 Farrell Junior High students presented a petition with 281 signatures asking the Farrell Board of Education to rescind a ban against carrying book bags and backpacks in school. They suggest that if the board is concerned about security, it should install metal detectors.
