Football: Penguins open conference at Northern Iowa

The Youngtown State football team opens league play Saturday at the UNI Dome against Northern Iowa.
The Panthers have owned YSU in that building. The Penguins last win came in 1999, when all of the Penguin players weren't even born.
"Its a nice way to open the conference, " said cornerback & Warren Harding product Troy Jakubec. "I think we're going to turn a lot of heads and we're looking to rewrite what people think of us going and playing at the UNi Dome."
The Panthers lead the all time series 25-9 with YSU's last win coming in 2018 at Stambaugh Stadium.
"We talk about it but I don't think too many guys are pressed about it," said running back & Liberty product Dra Rushton.
"We have to have road focus and discipline and all the things to go in there and get the win."
Coach Doug Phillips says the lack of success of the Penguins in the UNI Dome shows its a tough place to play.
"We have to go out there and earn it. We've earned absolutely nothing," continued Phillips.
"We had a bitter taste in our mouths sitting in this room when we didn't get a shot at the playoffs . Every game counts," said Rushton.
Kickoff Saturday is 2:00pm
