A nationwide alert is being sent out Wednesday by FEMA, but there's no need for alarm.

According to a release from the agency, FEMA and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on October 4.

Both tests are scheduled for Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. ET.

The WEA portion will go to all consumer cell phones and be displayed in either English or Spanish depending on the language setting of the device.

The EAS portion will test radios and televisions.

The alert on cell phones will read: "THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed."

A similar message will appear on radios and televisions: "This is a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, covering the United States from 14:20 to 14:50 hours ET. This is only a test. No action is required by the public."
