YOUNGSTOWN - On Wednesday, October 11, Youngstown State University's Office of Career Exploration and Development will co-sponsor a hiring event with Youngstown Works.

People looking for a career change or university students interested in picking up an internship can attend the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stambaugh Auditorium at 1000 Fifth Avenue in Youngstown.

The hiring event is open to the public and there will be free parking. Around 70 employers are expected to be at the event to talk about job and internship opportunities.

Gerri Jenkins from Youngstown Works spoke with 21 News' Matt Stone during 21 News Midday about the event. Jenkins said many of the employers will be from manufacturing, health care, Information Technology, and logistics fields or the service industry.

"You don't need a qualification to come in. There may be qualifications that employers are seeking, "Jenkins said. "But this fair is for anybody -- graduating seniors in high school, students in college, graduating students in college, adults in career transition and even returning citizens who were incarcerated and looking to get back into the work force."

Jenkins said the jobs range from entry level positions to management possibilities. She also confirmed that there are many full-time opportunities available that offer health care and benefits. According to Jenkins, job-seekers should bring a resume, but shouldn't let a lack of one keep them from attending the event.

The YSU Office of Career Exploration and Development will offer interview skill prep sessions before the hiring event. Those interested can set up at appointment by calling the office at (330) 941-3515.
