Poland Township adjusts police levy millage to reflect updated property values

POLAND TWP., Ohio - Poland Trustees are making an adjustment to the police levy that's set to appear on the ballot in March 2024.
Monday afternoon, the trustees will vote to lower the requested millage rate from the 0.98 requested in November to 0.73.
Township Trustee Eric Ungaro says this change will not raise or lower taxes for residents. The adjustment is necessary after the Mahoning County Auditor released new home evaluations, increasing property values.
At the previous rate of 0.98, the levy would raise more than the township initially requested.
"This is comparing apples to apples," said Ungaro. "Quite frankly, it's just housekeeping."
Come January 1st, the township will no longer receive tax dollars from a 1978 levy, and will voluntarily eliminate the 1981 levy.
"Both taxes are from previous home evaluations, equaling 0.98," added Ungaro. "January 1st, 2024, the same mileage would be 0.73."
