A Girard man is expected to enter a plea Wednesday in a case where he is alleged to have assaulted a student when he was working as a teacher's aide at McDonald High School.

Stephen Bornemiss, 27, was charged with assault and endangering a child after an alleged incident involving a McDonald student last October.

According to a police report and court records, on September 26, McDonald police were called to the high school after an incident caught on video from the previous day that allegedly showed a student in a multiple disabilities classroom and the teacher's aide struggling in a hallway.

The police report states that the student appeared not to want to go upstairs to his classroom when, according to police, Bornemiss reportedly attempted to lift the student under the armpits several times as the student resisted.

The district's superintendent Kevin O'Connell, notified police and spoke with the superintendent of Trumbull County Educational Service Center.

Although the case was sent to the Trumbull County Grand Jury, Bornemiss is expected to plead to what's known as a Bill of Information, instead of facing an indictment.

According to the report, both the McDonald school district and TCESC agreed to remove Bornemiss from the classroom pending the outcome of the investigation.
