A company that took people on an Ohio River journey experiencing the world from the era of Mark Twain and made frequent stops in East Liverpool has shut down.

American Queen Voyages announced on its Facebook page, claiming that the overnight cruise industry was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as related changes in travel preferences.

“Despite great efforts by our team, Crew, and partners, demand has not recovered, and AQV has become financially unsustainable,” according to the post.

The Federal Maritime Commission announced that AQV has canceled all future voyages and has filed a voluntary petition for relief under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code.

“We are deeply proud of our Crew and the outstanding travel experiences and service we have provided to our guests. As we reflect on our journey, we are filled with gratitude for the privilege of serving our guests, partners, and agents and for being part of our incredible local communities. Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives,” AQV said in a statement.

Effective immediately, all future AQV cruises have been canceled and guests should expect to have their cruise deposits refunded in full.
