Decision 2024: McLaughlin retains Columbiana Co. Sheriff role; commissioners races decided

The winner in the race for Columbiana County Sheriff is incumbent Brian McLaughlin, easily defeating challenger John Williams, 10,259 to 3,114 votes.
While both candidates have decades with the Sheriff's Department, Brian McLaughlin was first elected as sheriff four years ago, while his challenger, Robert Dowling, who currently serves on the Southern Local School Board.
In the race for Columbiana County Commissioners,
Republican candidate/January 2
Tim Ginter was victourous over challenger John Williams, defeating him with 77 percent of vote.
Ginter will face off against Democrat Ray Cox in the general election in November.
Republican candidate/Janaury 3
Roy Paparodis beat Duane Nickell and Danielle Burch with 45 percent of the vote.
Winners of tonight's election will be on the November ballot for the position.
