Youngstown State University's University Archives opens exhibit on Black student experience

Youngstown University's University Archives has a new exhibit set to open this week titled "The YSU Black Student Experience" which will feature contributions and achievements of Black students at YSU.
For the past year, Tilisia Williams, a student assistant in Maag Library and senior Psychology major, interviewed over 30 alumni about their experiences at YSU, combed through past yearbooks, The Jambar newspapers and archival collections. In doing this, Williams and a team from the University Archives worked to rediscover stories about early alumni, students groups, athletes, Greek organizations and the Black Studies- now Africana Studies- program.
The idea originally came from the late Carol Bennett, the assistant provost for the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
To celebrate the opening of the exhibit, there will be a reception on Friday, April 12th at 4:00 p.m. on the fifth floor of the Maag Library and will feature a brief program.
The event is free and open to the public
