JEFFERSON TWP., Mercer Co., Pa. - Work on a project to replace a 114-year-old bridge in Jefferson Township is now underway.

Work on the replacement of the bridge that carries Valley Road over Lackawannock Creek in Jefferson Township kicked off Monday and is expected to be completed by October.

The original bridge was built in 1910 and is rated in poor condition. Approximately 500 vehicles use this bridge per day on average.

The project will consist of the replacement of the existing 32-foot beam structure with a concrete beam bridge and minor roadway work. The contractor for the project is Mekis Construction Corporation of Fenelton, PA.

The project will cost $1,922,006.45 and will be paid for entirely with federal funds.

During the construction period, drivers will need to take a detour from Route 258 to Route 58 to Grove Road (Route 3022). This detour is expected to be in place for about four months.
