On Friday, John F. Kennedy High School participated in their Annual Father John-Michael Lavelle Day of Service.

This initiative was created in 2017 to serve surrounding community and parishes. The event was renamed in honor of Father John-Michael Lavelle for the constant and thoughtful ways he gave of his time and talent to Kennedy students as Director of Faith Formation.

Each house that makes up the school went off and worked on various service projects within the community. Volunteer sites included St. Vincent dePaul, Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, Animal Welfare League, Boyd's Home, Harriet's House, and supporting parishes. The work performed at each location varied depending on the location's needs.

The students who volunteered at Our Lady of Mount Carmel even helped prepare meatballs.

"It's team building. It teaches them how to work together, again it's really about giving back to the community," said Agostino Ragozzino, a math teacher at the High School. "One of my students said it makes you feel so proud to be doing something other than just sitting in class."
