YSU honors all graduating nursing students at medallion ceremony

The first week of May is National Nurses Week and Youngstown State University made sure their soon-to-be nurses were honored properly.
For the first time, the Centofanti School of Nursing graduates from the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and the first graduating class from the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program received their medallions together at a joint ceremony. There were 78 BSN graduates and 11 ADN graduates honored at the ceremony.
"Graduation is a special time," said Sheila Blank, Director of Centofanti School of Nursing, "but the medallion ceremony is just for nursing."
Blank also added that the medallion ceremony being in May honors Florence Nightingale's vision and her values for nursing, as her birthday is this month on May 12.
The Medallion, created by Wendell August Forge, will be worn by students at the graduation ceremony representing the student's commitment to the Nursing profession.
