Boardman woman scammed out of hundreds of dollars after being asked to model for painting through Instagram

BOARDMAN, Ohio - A Boardman woman's hopes of being immortalized on canvas led to her losing hundreds of dollars in an online scam.
According to a police report, a woman was scammed out of several hundreds of dollars after she received a message on Instagram from someone posing as an artist who told them they would like to use her as a model for a painting.
The victim told Boardman police officers that the scammer told her she would have to pay for the supplies for the painting up front, and then she would be reimbursed by a company out of Raleigh, North Carolina once the painting was completed.
The report states that the victim told the artist that she would model for the painting and sent the artist $400 via Cash App and then $500 via Venmo.
The victim then stated that she received a check for $900 and then mobile deposited it into her First National Bank checking account. The check bounced the next day and then an additional $900 was deducted from her account.
In total, the woman was scammed out of $1800.
She was advised to report any fraudulent activity on her bank account.
