BOARDMAN, Ohio - Boardman Township Trustees will be meeting Monday evening to discuss whether or not to place an additional 4.5 mil fire and EMS levy on the ballot for voters.

Township Trustee Tom Costello tells 21 News Monday night's meeting will see the first of two readings in regards to placing the levy on the ballot for voters in November. It must pass both of these readings in order to make it on the ballot.

This comes after a proposed merger of the Boardman Fire Department and Cardinal Joint Fire District failed, which was meant to resolve a lack of manpower for Boardman's fire and EMS crews.

Boardman Township Administrator Jason Loree previously told 21 News as it stands, Boardman Fire only has one station staffed with an ambulance crew with all other ambulances in the township operated by LANES, a private company.

This levy would allow for the expansion of services for the fire department and allow for ambulance crews to be staffed at all three fire stations in the township.

Back in June, the township kicked off community outreach efforts to spread the word about the levy and how it could benefit the township.
