Famous impressionist's painting heading to the Butler

Claude Monet was the founding father of the Impressionist movement in the 19th century.
Now, one of his most famous series of paintings is making its way to the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown.
This famous 1903 Monet painting is a reciprocal loan for the Butler’s Edward Hopper, Pennsylvania Coal Town, which is on view in the Dayton Art Institute’s The Quiet World of Edward Hopper exhibition.
The famous oil on canvas painting is installed in the Watson Gallery on the main level with the American Impressionist paintings.
Dr. Louis Zona, executive director for the Butler, said, “The painting is inspired by the artist’s magnificent gardens at Giverny (France). Claude Monet is often called the Father of Impressionism. The Impressionists were considered to be the first modern artists.”
The painting will be on view at the Butler until September 8.
