Boardman man pleads 'not guilty' to charges for 115 mph police chase with infant in truck

AUSTINTOWN TWP., Ohio - A Boardman man is free on bond after pleading "not guilty' to most of the charges filed against him for allegedly leading State Troopers and Police on a chase through Mahoning County while a baby was with him in his truck.
Matthew Brayman, 29, entered the "not guilty" plea on Wednesday to charges of endangering children, driving without a valid license, texting while driving, swerving over traffic lanes, and not wearing a seat belt. No plea was accepted to a charge of failing to comply with a police order.
Braymen is accused of driving a pickup truck at speeds reaching 115 miles per hour after the Patrol tried to pull the pickup truck over on Interstate 80 in Austintown at around 12:30 a.m. on August 19.
According to a report from OSP, the chase began after troopers saw the truck driving outside its lane going about 45 miles per hour in a 65 miles per hour zone.
Once troopers activated their sirens, the truck took off at a high rate of speed with the chase reaching speeds of about 115 miles per hour.
The pursuit continued west onto I-76 until the truck turned around and headed back toward Youngstown, swerving between lanes according to Troopers.
At one point during the chase, troopers say the driver of the truck threw a plastic bag out the window near the Meander Reservoir.
Youngstown Police had joined the chase on I-680 when a dispatcher got a call from a woman claiming that her 1-year-old child was in the truck being driven by Braymen, the baby's father.
Concerned for the welfare of the infant, Troopers ended the high-speed chase but kept the truck in sight as it exited I-680 on Western Reserve Road and followed it at a safe distance into Youngstown's Southside.
Troopers found out later that the driver had met with the mother and turned the child over to her unharmed.
