As part of the nearly $50 million awarded for Demolition and Brownfield Remediation Projects announced by the Ohio Department of Development Friday, the former Freedom Oil Works and an auto repair garage will receive $219,946 to clean the parcel in Salem.

According to the press release, the Miller Holzworth project involves the environmental assessment of a former manufacturing site previously used by Freedom Oil Works and an auto repair garage. The site also housed MillerHolzwarth Inc., which produced parts for military vehicles.

With the funds, they will complete an environmental assessment and soil and groundwater sampling. Once remediated, the
site will be ready for commercial or industrial redevelopment.

Today's announcement represents the fifth round of funding for both programs.
