1999: Some Trumbull County officials are calling to support a bill introduced by U.S. Rep. James A. Traficant Jr. that would prohibit drilling for oil or natural gas in Mosquito Lake, which supplies drinking water to 50,000 Warren customers.
Mahoning County Sheriff Randall Wellington says he has released 180 prisoners in three days, bringing the county jail's count to 305, but 288 of those are either felons or awaiting trial on felony counts, making it impossible for him to reach a federal court order that he reduce the population to 242.
About 1,300 Salem residents who were part of a class action suit against the former Nease Chemical Co. for contamination caused by its Salem plant will begin getting payment checks from an $18 million settlement. A family that lived in an $85,000 house between 1986 and 1990 will get about $30,000.
1984: A study by Trumbull County's Disaster Services Agency says that in the event of a failure of the Milton and Berlin dams, Trumbull County residents would have between three and 20 hours to flee floodwaters.

Harley S. Morian, 80, of Lisbon, is one of the few people who vividly recalls the night 40 years ago when "Pretty Boy" Floyd was trapped and shot to death by FBI agents on the Conkle Farm on Clarkstown-Spruceville Road.
