Parole has been denied for a man convicted of murdering his wife in Weathersfield Township back in 1987.

According to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office, 58-year-old Paul Smith has been denied parole for the 1987 murder of his wife Gina while she was working as a manager at a McDonald's restaurant in Weathersfield Township.

Prosecutors say Smith smashed a window and broke into the restaurant around 4 a.m., terrorized all the employees inside, chased down his wife and shot her "point blank" in the head.

Smith is currently serving a prison sentence of 18 years to life. His next chance for parole will be in September of 2027.

Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins agreed with this decision. Watkins had previously written a letter to the Ohio Adult Parole Authority urging them not to grant Smith parole.

"The pure madness of this killing cannot be overstated. Literally Smith went hunting for his wife, who was pregnant with twins, with a lever-action rifle," Watkins said.
