Several community police departments around the Valley asked voters for additional funds, including Cortland.

The city of Cortland sought a 2.5 mills tax levy for the police department for providing and maintaining police protection. The levy failed -  2,381 against the levy to 1,640 for the levy.

The continuing levy would have cost $88 a year for every $100,000 of assessed value of the property to taxpayers. The funds would have been used to hire two full-time officers.
