Sharon Fire Department offers free smoke detectors after fire that injured 9-year-old boy

Just days after a fire that injured a nine-year-old boy in Sharon, fire officials are working to make sure safety measures are in place in all homes to prevent similar incidents from happening.
According to a post on the Sharon Fire Department's Facebook page, a nine-year-old boy who was burned in a fire that is believed to have started from a space heater did not have a smoke detector installed in his bedroom where he was sleeping.
Fire officials say if the boy did have a smoke detector installed in his room, he would have been alerted to the fire much sooner and could have had the chance to escape without injuries.
That's why the Sharon Fire Department has launched an initiative in collaboration with the American Red Cross to install up to three smoke detectors in homes in the city completely free of charge.
If you do have smoke detectors installed in your home, but you're not sure if it's up to date, the fire department is also offering a service to inspect your smoke detectors to make sure they are in working order.
