The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is seeking public comment on a proposed project to construct a truck parking facility on I-80 in Hubbard Township.

According to a press release, the project is funded by a federal grant from the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight and High Projects grant program and proposes to repurpose two closed rest areas as new truck parking facilities.

The project area is located on I-80 Westbound just west of the Ohio/Pennsylvania state line in Hubbard Township.

The proposed facilities would have a minimum of 38 truck parking spaces with safety and comfort features like green space, lighting, fencing, modular restroom building structure and cameras within the footprint of the former rest area's welcome center.

Construction work is scheduled to begin and be completed in 2026. However, ODOT tells 21 News there is no set time in 2026 when work will begin or end at this time.

During the construction period, drivers should expect to see daytime lane and shoulder closures on I-80 for speed change lane resurfacing and shoulder reconstruction.

Through access will be maintained along I-80 throughout the construction phase and substantial traffic disruptions are not expected to occur.

Any comments, questions or concerns about this project can be submitted to ODOT by calling 330-786-4931 or by emailing [email protected]. Comments must be submitted by April 10.
