Prosecutor Maro touts accomplishments after first 100 days in office
"My oath is to administer justice and to make sure what we're doing is furthering justice," said Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro during a press conference Thursday, where she looked to demonstrate how she's done that in her first 100 days in office.
"That goal that I talked about during the campaign was to provide greater consistency and uniformity, and I think having more resources, more information available, can help us make sure that occurs," she said.
Maro started using victim and witness testimony before grand juries, for example.
County commissioner Geno DiFabio says Maro has built a more cohesive unit between law enforcement and her office.
"When you have a team like we have now, working together, collaborating everywhere across the county for justice in Mahoning County, it's a great thing and I'm glad we're finally getting that cooperation between the courts, the prosecutor, the sheriff's (office)", said DiFabio.
"She's really hit the ground running," added Sheriff Jerry Greene, adding that while any transition brings uncertainty, this one has been as smooth as he's ever seen. He pointed to Maro's revamping how violent felonies and murder cases are assessed, as well as tracking plea bargaining.
That includes a new database to track how these cases are resolved and why plea deals are made.
"It really is a nice way to allow law enforcement and I'm sure the victims' families to know how cases turn out, so that's a great new addition," Greene said.
