Flames force two from home on Youngstown’s east side

A fire forced two adults to flee from their Youngstown home early Friday.
Fire crews were called to a home in the 1100 block of North Garland Avenue around 1:30 a.m. after the residents saw flames in an upstairs room. The family fled the house and called 911.
The first firefighters to arrive could see flames coming from the front window.
While battling the blaze, a power line fell onto one of the fire department's trucks.
No injuries were reported, but the home was heavily damaged. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The American Red Cross has been contacted to provide temporary shelter, clothing, and other necessities to the two adults who lived in the home.
This fire was one of three residential fires the Youngstown Fire Department responded to since midnight.
