Police: Botched robbery attempt led to shooting at Compass West Apartments

AUSTINTOWN - A report from the Austintown Police Department has shed more light on the events leading up to a shooting at the Compass West apartment complex on Wednesday.
According to the report, police were called to the apartment complex just after 3 p.m. Wednesday in response to reports of gunfire with a victim who was shot.
When they got there, police found a male victim laying on the floor with gunshot wounds and a trail of blood leading to the doorway of one of the apartments.
Police spoke with several female witnesses inside the apartment, with one of them telling officers all the "boys" involved were originally inside of the apartment hanging out, but they had bags with guns in them so she asked them to leave.
The witness told police she heard gunfire coming from the hall after the males left, but did not actually see the shooting happen.
Later, two more witnesses spoke with officers, saying one of the occupants set the group of males up for a robbery and they warned them to leave.
Police found several bullet holes in the walls of several apartments near where the shooting happened. However, no one in any of the other apartments was struck by the gunfire.
The shooting left one victim in critical condition and another in stable condition, and resulted in the arrest of Mikklo Delgado. Police chief Valerie Delmont told 21 News more arrests and charges could potentially come later.
