CORNERSBURG, Ohio- The American Academy of Pediatrics is recommending parents get their kids vaccinated now, rather than wait.
The annual vaccine protects against three strains of the flu. This year, some doses will actually protect against four strains.
Now, while four may sound better than three, there is no data yet to suggest one is more beneficial than the other. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 30 million doses of the quadrivalent vaccine will be available.
"It is better to get the shot early than put it off and there is always that chance you could run out or just forget to get it. So, it is better to be protected and get vaccinated early than to wait around," said pharmacist Stephanie Mrozek with The Hometown Pharamacy.
Some experts fear, that by waiting around for the quadrivalent vaccine, parents will miss the opportunity to protect their children. All people choosing the flu mist this year, will be protected against all four strains.
