The West Branch community is reacting to the death of an elementary school teacher in an accident in Knox township Thursday.

State troopers say 33-year-old Jennifer Baker of Kensington died in a head on crash along Rochester Road. Reports say the other vehicle went left of center.

Baker taught third grade at Beloit elementary school.

Superintendent Scott Weingart issued a statement calling Baker an outstanding educator.

"I had the good fortune of knowing Mrs. Baker for a long time. I watched her grow from an outstanding student to an energetic and passionate teacher. She was beloved by her students and the staff with whom she worked. Mrs. Baker was dedicated to the profession, serving on numerous school committees. She was committed to her students and to her own family," Weingart said in the statement.

Grief counselors were present at the elementary school Thursday to inform students of Baker's death and will be on hand Friday for students, staff and parents.

The other driver was identified as 19-year-old Rikki Wheatley III of Mechanicstown.

There's no word on his condition.

Baker's 7-year-old son and four year old daughter were treated at a hospital, then released.
