MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Police believe a former Cortland native may be involved with the three missing people in Mount Vernon, after a 13-year-old girl was found bound and gagged in his basement.

Matthew Hoffman is being held on one million dollars bond, charged with kidnapping 13-year-old Sarah Maynard.

Sarah, her mother, her 10-year-old brother, and her mother's friend all went missing in Mount Vernon last Wednesday. Authorities fear the three still missing are dead.

Hoffman spent his first two years of high school living on West Lake Drive in Cortland, where one neighbor and mother of three girls says she was leery of Hoffman.

Hoffman spent six years in a Colorado prison for setting a fire to cover up a burglary. He was released from parole last month.
