Steelers, charity win ban on 'Terrible T-shirt'

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A federal judge says a Pittsburgh-area company must stop making T-shirts similar to The Terrible Towel, the yellow dish rag that Pittsburgh Steelers fans wave during football games.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (http://bit.ly/sqMhPH) says the judge ruled Tuesday that Eugene Berry Enterprises LLC infringed on the trademark by selling black & gold shirts with the message, "The Terrible T-Shirt A Pittsburgh Original."
The Steelers and the Allegheny Valley School Foundation sued in August claiming the shirts were too similar to The Terrible Towel, but that Berry's company produced them anyway.
The Steelers late radio commentator Myron Cope came up with the idea for the towel in the 1970s. He turned over his rights to the team and to benefit the school in nearby Coraopolis which cares for 900 people with disabilities, including Cope's autistic son, Danny.
