YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A man serving thirty years to life for the murder of a YSU football player has been denied a new trial.
The Seventh District Court of Appeals court has sustained a lower court ruling upholding the murder conviction of Eric Moore.
The 40-year-old inmate of the Grafton Correctional institution claimed that his lawyer did an inadequate job of defending him against allegations that he fatally shot Jermaine Hopkins at an off campus party in 1996.
Moore was convicted of murder and attempted murder.
Hopkins was a defensive end for YSU from 1992 through 1995 and was inducted into the YSU athletics hall of fame in 2005.
