NILES, Ohio - A Hubbard man is free on $10,000 bond after appearing in court to answer charges of bigamy and falsification.

35-year-old Michael Wilms was summoned to Warren Municipal Court on Monday, where he pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Investigators for the Trumbull County Sheriff filed the charges after a woman told them that when Wilms appeared for a custody hearing in Mercer County earlier this month, he mentioned that he had a fiancee. That woman told deputies that she is still married to Wilms.

Trumbull County Probate Court records show that Wilms and Allison Marie Tucci applied for a marriage license on May 15, 2014.

Both charges filed against Wilms are misdemeanors. If convicted, Wilms could be sentenced to six months in jail and fined $1,000 on each count.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for August 11.
