GROVE CITY, Pa. - Last Friday, a store in Grove City made an unusual find when going through a bag of donated items.
Now the owner of the store wants to track down the donor.
All Good Things is a non-profit thrift store. Volunteers at the store say an elderly women dropped off several bags of men's clothing. After she left they discovered $5,500 in the toe of one of the donated shoes.
"We've found a dollar here and a dollar there, a quarter here and a quarter there," said Owner Debbie Kochems. "But never $5,500."
Volunteers say they only spoke with the woman briefly but, know that her husband had recently passed away.
"I don't think any widow, recent widow, anybody would give away anything knowing that money was in there," said volunteer JoElla Hodge. "I mean he had to have been maybe keeping it by himself. I don't know, but I can't imagine her knowing it was in there."
They now hope she will see this story and claim the money.
To make sure it goes only to the rightful owner, volunteers are keeping some details of the donation private, hoping the woman will be able to answer a few questions.
"We know she is a widow, we know her husband would have wanted her to have this money so, we want to get it back to her," said Kochems.
A sign that the name of the store, All Good Things, refers to more than the items inside, but their team of volunteers who care.
