Champion first Valley school to play for baseball & softball crowns
The Champion baseball and softball team made history becoming the first Mahoning Valley school to play for state championships in the same year.The softball team, going after their seventh state crown, eliminated Springfield Northwestern 10-0 in five innings Friday afternoon, and the baseball team, playing for their first state championship, knocked off Clear Fork 2-1 Thursday.

The softball team, going after their seventh state crown, eliminated Springfield Northwestern 10-0 in five innings Friday afternoon, and the baseball team, playing for their first state championship, knocked off Clear Fork 2-1 Thursday.
The softball team, 31-2 and ranked second, plays number one ranked Wheelersburg (25-2). The Flashes have only allowed one run in tournament play and have 16 shutouts. The Pirates have 22 shutouts and have only been scored upon 12 times all season.
They play at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Firestone Stadium in Akron.
The Champion baseball team, ranked second, has won 13 in a row. Berlin Hiland, the defending state champs, are perfect in 31 games and have allowed five runs in the tournament.
They meet at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Huntington Park in Columbus.
Champion is trying to become only the second school in state history to win both the baseball and softball state titles in the same year. The only school to do it so far is Walsh Jesuit in 2004.
