AUSTINTOWN TWP., Ohio - More than a year after a Youngstown man was accused of stealing a sandwich from a Boardman Walmart the law finally caught up with Kevin D. Williams.
The Kenmore Avenue man was pulled over by an Austintown Police officer who said he drove through a red light on Four Mile Run Road early Tuesday.
After checking with dispatch, the officer found that Boardman Police had issued a warrant for Williams' arrest last year.
According to a police report, Williams is accused of stealing a six-foot long sub sandwich on April 2, 2016.
At the time of the alleged incident, a store security employee told police that a Walmart greeter stopped Williams as he was wheeling the sandwich out of the store in a shopping cart.
When asked for his receipt, the greeter said Williams showed her the order form instead.
The greeter asked Williams to wait while she checked another shopper's receipt.
That's when Williams left the store with the sandwich, according to the report.
The security employee checked video surveillance and determined that Williams did not pay for the $32 sandwich.
The store provided Boardman Police with a DVD of the surveillance video.
Austintown Police cited Williams for the traffic violation before turning him over to Boardman Police.
Williams was issued a summons to appear in court next week.
