YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - East High School is returning to its roots this year after Youngstown City Schools CEO Krish Mohip announced the school's new mascot Wednesday morning.
The Golden Bear mascot is being resurrected, and the Panther is being retired.
Youngstown City Schools CEO Krish Mohip declares August 2 as Golden Bears Day after naming the new mascot for East High School.
In addition to the high school mascot change, Mohip said the Pre-K through 8th-grade schools feeding into East will be named the Golden Cubs, and the schools feeding into Chaney will be the Junior Cowboys.
After losing teachers, buildings, and overall pride throughout the years, Mohip said naming a familiar mascot will help bring back some of the pride he has observed in alumni.
