Not all trustees approve of interim Liberty Police Chief

LIBERTY TWP, Ohio - Liberty Trustees appointed an interim police chief, but his placement doesn't come without some question.
Monday night, Trustee Jodi Stoyak was the sole vote against the appointment of Captain Toby Meloro as interim chief. She cited an "internal investigation." But afterward, trustees said they had been advised by legal counsel to not discuss the matter.
Stoyak said Meloro was the only one to apply for the position. She also said she feels trustees did not do their due diligence to seek out other candidates.
Meloro's appointment comes as long-time Police Chief Rich Tisone retires. Tisone has served and protected Liberty Township for 31 years. He said farewell to his officers during Monday night's meeting.
"Last year we held the distinction of the 61st safest community in the state of Ohio, which we've never had that distinction before and again I thank you guys," said Tisone pointing to his officers. "The supervisors, all of you, the patrolmen, you guys are out there banging away every day and sometimes I don't know how you guys do it."
Chief Tisone's last day is August 19th.
