Former Youngstown Mayor Charles Sammarone was booked in the Mahoning County Jail on Wednesday.

Sammarone was indicted last week as part of an ongoing public corruption probe of alleged activity that includes Poland businessman, Dominic Marchionda who was previously indicted on corruption charges last year.

Sammarone served as Mayor of Youngstown from 2011 to 2013.

The indictment alleges that Sammarone solicited and received recurring cash payments from a vendor in return for steering projects to the company.

According to the indictment, "Sammarone is heard in a 2014 recording repeatedly stating that he is 'old school' and that anything is legal if no one else knows about it."

Sammarone was booked and released on Wednesday on charges of bribery, tampering with records, falsification, and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.

Ex-city Finance Director David Bozanich and businessman Dominic Marchionda were also indicted on these charges last week. So far, Sammarone is the only one to pass through the Mahoning County Jail.

Officials do expect all three men to be arraigned next week.
