YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown police were called to Berkley Avenue on Saturday in reference to a woman who said she was stabbed with an ax.

According to the police report, officers got to the house around 10 a.m. and saw a man holding an ax in the front yard. Officers say he complied and dropped the ax.

The suspect told police the 31-year-old victim, who is his daughter-in-law, came over to his house. He told police he told her to get off his property and then she lunged at him with a pocket knife. He says he jabbed her with the ax in her midsection to stop her. 

The police report states the suspect told police he had an ax in his hand because he cuts wood as a workout regiment. 

Witness also told police the suspect only used the ax to get her away and he didn't fully swing, according to the report.

The suspect told police the victim left in her car. According to the report, officers located her on Springdale Avenue. 

The victim was transported to the hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time. 

It is unknown if either person will face charges.
