Man sentenced in Trumbull County for passing bad checks
A former mayoral candidate in Streetsboro was sentenced in Trumbull County Tuesday, after he pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a check fraud scheme.

TRUMBULL COUNTY, OH - A former mayoral candidate in Streetsboro was sentenced in Trumbull County Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a check fraud scheme.
Thirty-year-old Brett McClafferty was ordered to serve a nine-month sentence and a six-month sentence on two charges concurrently with a three-year sentence from Portage County.
McClafferty will receive credit for time served but will be required to pay $550 in restitution.
McClafferty was indicted after passing bad checks totaling $13,500 in Trumbull County between June 6 and June 9 of 2017, and was described by prosecutors as a "Con-Man."
Portage County Assistant Prosecutor Sean Scahill tells 21 News, McClafferty is facing similar charges in Summit, Geauga and Cuyahoga counties.
Scahill says McClafferty is facing fraud charges that total near the six-figure range in Cuyahoga County.
