WARREN, Ohio - A Columbiana mother is facing several criminal charges in Warren Municipal Court after police say she overdosed at the Trumbull County Jail- a short while after officers say she ran from police in a stolen car.

Thirty-eight-year-old Jennifer Whaley was booked into the Trumbull County Jail on Friday on charges of endangering children, failure to comply, receiving stolen property, and drug paraphernalia.

Police say the charges stem from a "shocking" chase through the city with a three-year-old child in the backseat.

Officers say the situation started when a patrol car noticed a stolen Saturn Vue from Columbiana driving in the city.

According to a report, the patrol officer began following the car but got separated by traffic at an intersection. As the officer waited for traffic to clear, the report says he noticed the Saturn speed off on Oak Street.

The report says the officer turned on his lights and began following the Saturn as it fled along several side streets.

According to the report, at one point, the driver of the Saturn, later identified as Jennifer Whaley, was driving so fast that the car was kicking up dust and debris "to the point of minimal visibility."

Shortly after, the car came to a stop against several small trees.

The report says officers surrounded the car, but couldn't see any movement from anyone inside.

After moving, the report says officers say they were "shocked" to see a child in a car seat directly behind the driver's seat.

The report says officers approached the car and opened the door where Whaley was allegedly found slumped down on the passenger seat.

Police say Whaley "acted surprised" that she was being arrested.

Officers say they found a crack pipe on the floor behind the driver's seat, near where the child was seated.

According to the report, police began cleaning up the three-year-old, who "had been in a filthy diaper for a long period of time." The report goes on to say that both the child's clothing and the car seat were "soaked with urine".

The report says officers got the young girl food and had her checked over by EMT's on the scene.

She was released to a family member who came to pick her up.

Whaley was taken to the Trumbull County Jail, where she allegedly overdosed. Police say jail officials administered two doses of Narcan before transporting Whaley to the hospital.

Whaley appeared in court on Monday morning and pleaded not guilty to the charges. She is being held on a bond of $15,000.
