A 29-year-old Youngstown man could face charges once again now that the Mahoning County Coroner has issued a ruling of homicide in the death of the man's eight-week-old son.

The coroner ruled that Xavier Richardson's infant son passed away from blunt force injuries to the head.

Richardson had been charged with murder back in March, but prosecutors withdrew the charges in May saying they wanted to wait until the coroner released his findings in the child's death.

Officers were called to Mercy Hospital to investigate a report that a baby boy wasn't breathing and cold to the touch.

They say the child, Xavier Richardson, Jr., had possibly been abused.

The child passed away due to his injuries.

Police say the father told them that the infant was asleep and was gasping for air.
