LISBON, Ohio - A portion of Route 45 was blocked as a fire ripped through a wooden pallet yard in Lisbon.

The blaze broke out around 3 p.m. on Wednesday along Route 45 near East Lincoln Way.

According to Lisbon Fire Chief Paul Gresh, some wooden pallets caught fire and the wind spread the fire to other skids as well as a nearby structure.

Gresh said the building that burned was vacant and already falling apart. The structure once served as an old office building for Lisbon Steel Fabricating.

They were able to put the fire out after nearly two hours.

Gresh said a couple of firefighters were treated on-site for heat exhaustion but no one else was injured.

According to preliminary reports, the fire may have started from a burning pit where workers were burning scraps, Gresh said.
