Campbell mom, daycare worker charged with child endangering
A 44-year-old mom told officers who were putting her in handcuffs that she didn't know that punching her child was considered child abuse, according to a Campbell police report.
Nichelle Moore, who lists her employer as a New Castle daycare, was arrested at her Hamrock Drive home Tuesday and booked into jail on a warrant charging her with domestic violence and endangering children.
The arrest came after Moore's 15-year-old daughter told a school resource officer and Children Services representative that her mom punched her in the head three times and smacked her across the face for failing to clean up, according to her mother's standards.
The teen, who police said had a swollen face, added that her mother had been subjecting her to physical and verbal abuse for the past few months, forcing the teen to kneel before punishment was administered.
Police say a temporary protection order has been issued prohibiting Moore from having contact with her daughter.
Moore, whose three children have been turned over to the care of a relative, is scheduled to appear in Campbell Municipal Court to answer the charges on Friday.
