Six Penguins named to all-conference teams
Youngstown State defensive end Justus Reed was named first-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference, the league announced on Monday. DE Ma'lik Richmond and PR Jake Coates were second-team picks while WR Jermiah Braswell, OT Dan Becker and TE Miles Joiner were named honorable mention.
Reed, who sat out last season with an injury, returned to have a spectacular 2019 campaign. In 12 games, he had a league-high-tying 13 sacks. He is the first YSU defensive player since 2016 to earn first-team all-league honors.
Joiner is the only repeat selection for the Penguins while the other five Penguins are first-time all-league honorees. Joiner was named honorable-mention last season.
Coates is the first Penguin to be tabbed a first-or-second team return specialist since Jerald Burley earned first-team honors in 2001. Coates and Burley are the only two Penguins to be named All-MVFC as return specialists.
