Special celebration for local couple's 70th wedding anniversary
Everyday life has changed with the coronavirus pandemic but many are still finding creative ways to mark important milestones.
Members of one local family are making sure their parents 70th wedding anniversary is still memorable.
Larrie and Evelyn Romigh's family is still finding a way to celebrate the couple's 70th wedding anniversary on April 9th.
They're asking friends and family to shower the 89-year-olds with notes and cards in the mail.
"It does seem really odd because our family is close, we stay in connection a lot with each other, and to not be able to be there nearby is really challenging. It's a different day but I think we all really value the importance of the safety in the moment and want to be cooperative with that. It's important for us to be able to work together on something that will bring a memory and bring a lot of care and good wishes to them as well," said daughter Chery Boehm.
The Homeworth couple has seven children—six still living, 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and are active in the West Branch school district. Larrie was on the school board for many years.
"My mom and dad started out being parents when they were 19 years old and I think its neat that they've remained so committed to family and dedicated to parenting. They've been very involved in all of our lives and in the community and all the things that we do and that's been really special. They've been a good example for us on how to work through tough times and how to press on and those commitments that we have as a family group have been real important to all of us."
Larrie is a tool and die maker by trade who retired from PCC in Minerva. He graduated from Louisville High School.
Evelyn, whose maiden name is Sanor, graduated from Goshen High School and has been a homemaker and mother extraordinaire, according to her children.
"Mom was a teacher at heart," described daughter Letty Lalu.
Her mother had her count the number of degrees between the adult children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and spouses— two associates, 32 bachelors, 13 masters, and four doctorates.
All of their children went through West Branch Schools and the couple continues to attend a lot of West Branch sporting events including the girls basketball team's recent run to the state semifinals.
The couple still lives on the 40 acre farm they purchased in 1953 where they raised their children.
